Interns/Low Cost Therapy
LOW COST THERAPY - SORRY, WE DO NOT CURRENLTY HAVE SPOTS OPEN
Students completing their Masters degrees will provide services under the close supervision of Shirley Katz, Ph.D., RP, CCC, a caring and attentive supervisor with many years of experience in practice and teaching at the graduate level at UBC. She will help determine if your needs are suited to the student background and level of experience and once you are seeing them, she will help to facilitate your therapy to ensure that your needs are being met and progress is being made, through regular discussions and occasional observation of taped sessions.
Students work under supervision is a necessary and important part of completing qualifications towards licensure for independent practice and a great way to get low cost, high quality services. Students in this practice have additional training in EFT, CBT and Diversity related issues and are trained in different evidence-based modalities. They offer a free phone consultation to help you determine if you feel comfortable to meet with them. New students begin their internship accepting very low fees, and by the end of their 8 month training their fees climb to closer to what an independent therapist would be paid. Low rate therapy is time limited so we can offer the service to as many clients as needed. Offering low cost services in a private practice involves a lot of overhead and costs to the student and the clinic/supervisor. We do ask some questions to explore financial constraints in efforts to be fair in offering reduced rates. Rates range and can slide as low as 65 dollars to those facing hardship. At the end of their training fees are closer to 120-140. Students begin in May and January each year, so that is the best time to get in and avoid a wait list. Please inquire.
