I provide therapy for children, youth and adults. I am a Registered
Psychotherapist (Qualifying) With Masters level training in Art Therapy, and
before I became a therapist, I worked in Education for several years.
‘‘The only constant in life is change’ is a statement that portrays how life and
everything in it, is subject to transformation. If you or your child find change
overwhelming, therapy can help you adapt and navigate feelings of
discomfort with more calmness and confidence. I understand reaching out
for support for yourself or child, is not always easy, and I honour your courage
and welcome your first step.
As a Person - I Know what It Is Like To Make Big Life Changes
My path to becoming a therapist has not been linear, there have been many
hills and winding roads, lined with tempting parking places along the way. I
have relocated multiple times to both big cities and small towns. I have been
married and divorced, experienced life as a young mother and single
parenthood and now have a blended family of eight! Career wise, before I
became a therapist, I spend quite a bit of time working in the educational
system. I worked in a variety of roles, from being an Early Childhood Educator
to an Educational Assistant, Child and Youth Worker and an Art Teacher. It’s
been quite the journey!
Why I became a therapist
During my time in education, I have had the pleasure of working with
children, teenagers, adults and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
While I found my work in education fulfilling, I also witnessed firsthand the
struggles that students with mental health issues go through in the school system.
Challenges were not just limited to the school environment either;
these challenges extended into the community for students, adults and families alike.
I recognized that accessing mental health supports can make the world of difference
in someone’s life. This may be in the form of social, emotional, physical or academic
nd ultimately, it can empower one to reach their personal goals.
So, after some deep reflection, I made the decision to become a therapist.
Now, here I am, using my experience and knowledge to support individuals like you,
on your journey towards better mental health.
What Can You Expect From A typical Session?
My style of therapy is down-to-earth, creative and conversational. My
therapeutic approach is person-centered, practical, holistic and collaborative.
This means ‘you’ are at the center of our sessions. My job is to understand
your unique needs and goals, and to help ‘you’ find practical solutions to your
life challenges.
I utilize various therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
(CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Psychoanalytic, Mindfulness and
Art Therapy. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space, conductive for
curiosity and exploration.
If you are ready to take the first step towards change, I am here to help you.
Together we will work towards unlocking your potential, finding your path
and reaching your goals.
A favourite Quote of mine
Quote: “Be Brave Enough To Try Something New”
To me this quote reflects the challenge of making change. Change is hard! It
involves a risk into the unknown and it often takes time. When learning
something new, one must be brave enough to lean into the process of
practice and repetition. Being brave means having the courage to be
vulnerable; being willing to press-on in spite of fear or looking foolish. Being
“Brave enough to try something new” could look like standing up for yourself
or trusting others, loving deeper, practicing new skills, finding new hobbies or
habits, or just taking the risk of being vulnerable and moving forward despite
uncertainty.
