“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” Carl Rogers
In my role as a helping professional, I aim to create an accepting and compassionate therapeutic space for you to safely unpack your difficulties and reconnect with what matters most to you. My hope is that you leave our sessions feeling supported, heard, and re-energized. Together, we can collaboratively find ways to build upon your strengths and resources so that you feel better able to cope with the specific challenges that you face. I believe you are the expert of your own experience and my job, as your counsellor, is to help you become more skilled at navigating your way through life’s challenges and find greater fulfillment.
I provide services under the close supervision of Shirley Katz, Ph.D., RP, CCC, a caring and attentive supervisor with many years of experience in practice and teaching at the graduate level at UBC. She will help determine if your needs are suited to my background and experience and once you are seeing me, she will help to facilitate your therapy to ensure that your needs are being met and progress is being made, through regular discussions with me and occasional observation of my sessions. My work under her supervision is a necessary and important part of completing my qualifications towards my license for independent practice. While I am a novice therapist, I have an extensive background working and volunteering with various marginalized groups in the field of social services. I am an LGBTQ2+ affirmative, vegan-allied practitioner who provides culturally inclusive, low-cost counselling services on a sliding-scale. I use a holistic and person centered approach to help adults of all ages manage mental health challenges including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, addictions, self-defeating behaviours, low self-esteem, shame/guilt, lack of assertiveness, and relationship issues. I draw upon elements of different evidence-based modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Existential-Humanistic Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. My services are provided exclusively online through Tele-health, and I offer a free 30-minute phone consultation to help you determine if you feel comfortable to meet with me. It would be my honour to walk alongside you and support you in meeting your goals for therapy!
