Counselling Services, Supervision and Workshops
Counselling
Individual or Relationship Counselling: I see individuals, couples, families, friends and groups in psychotherapy towards meaningful life, career and relationship change. Usually clients are seen once a week for anywhere between (on average) 6 to 20 sessions depending on needs. Clients in crisis may require more frequent sessions and arrangements can be made to accomodate that need. Clients needing more intensive eating disorder treatment should call and inquire. Client who are new to counselling or psychotherapy may want to read through the philosophical approach page in more detial before booking an appointment.
Career Counselling: Please note that career counselling clients are often recommended homework to complete outside of session time. Thus they should be prepared to dedicate time and energy for these tasks to maximize the benefits of their counselling experience. At times, testing instruments and books may be recommended and charged to the client with client permission. Career counselling is typically short-term.
Groups and Workshops: Custom designed content and fees. Please inquire or see below for examples.
Phone Counselling: Phone services are offered to out of town clients. Consent and confidentiality are explained and contracted. Sessions are billed electronically and must be paid in advance. Please call to inquire and set up a phone appointment.
Consultation: Professional opinions require time and involve responsibility and liability. I am not able to offer my time for free in person or over the phone. If you are uncertain about whether these services would be suitable or whether you are ready for counselling, please spend more time reading this site and feel free to call the office when you are ready to make an appointment. Please do not call to inquire about someone you want to send to my services as I will not be able to discuss their case with you unless they are a client and have requested and consented to the discussion. It is best to ask the person to book an appointment. If you are inquiring about services for a child who is not mature enough to consent to their own treatment, please call to discuss.
Legal and medical assessments: These kinds of cases are best dealt with by clinical psychologists who specialize in assessment. Please visit the website for the Ontario Psychological Association for such a specialist referral. If you are looking for emotional support while dealing with a legal or medical issue, I am happy to provide counsellng services.
Fees
Session Fees: Clients with insurance are billed a rate within industry standards. My current session fee is significantly below the average rate for a Ph.D. level practitioner at $170 per session. Clients without insurance coverage who are not able to pay the full rate can request to negotiate a slightly lower rate. It is preferable to pay for the session before it begins to get payment out of the way.
Insurance: Most insurance plans will cover my services as insured client cases are supervised by a Registered Psychologist. Please check your individual plan to determine what your coverage is. You will have to pay for services and request reimbursement. My services may be covered by your extended health benefits.
Telephone Consultation: $25 for 10 minutes, payable in advance by credit card or paypal.
Sliding Scale Requests: As my services are private, I am not able to subsidize clients by offering a sliding scale. I am happy to offer referrals to community services. At times I am able to offer a slight reduction in fees to clients who demonstrate financial need, who feel they would benefit from my services.
Supervision
Supervision for M.A. level practicum students in counselling is available. Please call for more information, 647-244-3050. Note that my services rendered to clients with insurance are supervised by a Registered Psychologist.
